GINA AND THE CHAMPIONS - 50 SONGS FOR 50 YEARS TOUR

TOWNHALL ARTS CENTRE, SATURDAY 21st SEPTEMBER 2024 8PM

Gina, Dale Haze and The Champions formed in 1973. The Cork-based band took the dancing scene by storm from the late 1970s and early 80s with 25 chart hit singles and several best-selling albums. The band quickly became Ireland’s top attraction with record breaking attendances at dances and concerts. Amazingly, 50 years on, the original band members, Gina, Pat, Mossey, Eddie & Tony still perform together at sell out shows. Sadly, Dale Haze passed away suddenly in 2020, his colleagues continue to remember him on stage.

The group, originally hailing from Cork, consisted of a four-piece backing band (The Champions) and two lead singers (Gina and Dale Haze). Female lead Gina took the vocal duties on most of the singles, while male lead Dale Haze provided lead vocals on many songs and released a solo album in 1982.

They featured regularly in the Irish charts – their biggest hits including "Minnie Minnie", "Do You Wanna Do It", "You're the Greatest Lover", "Who Do You Wanna Be", "Give Me Back My Love", “It’s A Real Good Feeling” and "Playing with Fire".They were voted Top Irish Pop Band in several voters polls over the period also.

The band’s recording career has produced a rich discography which is adorned by fans and critics alike. In 1977 they released their debut album aptly titled “From the Beginning”.Their second studio album “Champions Again” was released in 1979. The third LP was released in 1981 which featured many of the hits of the previous two years.Their fourth album from those early years was self-titled, marking a brief change of band name to the abbreviated G DH & C.

The next album was released in 1995 following an extended hiatus. This was a collection of hits called “Hits and Memories”.The following studio album “Baby I Love You” was released in 2012.“Dragonflies” is the most recent album and was released 2016.

Gina, Dale Haze and the Champions received countless awards and accolades over the years. 1979 proved to be a monumental year for the band, firstly with the release of one of their biggest hits ‘The Greatest Lover’ and then being decorated with two major awards; Gina being voted ‘Irelands Number 1 Pop Singer’ and the band being voted ‘Irelands Top band’, a ‘feat’ they repeated many times over the following years.

Along with a consistently active touring schedule, ‘Gina, Dale Haze and the Champions’ counted many television appearances both in Ireland and Britain over the course of their lengthy career.Appearances on Gay Byrne’s famed ‘The Late Late Show’ were a regular occurrence, performing many of their hits such as, ‘The Greatest Lover’, ‘Give Me back my Love’, ‘Dreams are Good Friends’, ‘Drunken Sailor’, ‘A Real Good Feeling’ and many more.

2024 is already shaping up to be another exciting year for fans and band members alike, as the band gear up for their ’50 Songs for 50 Years’ album tour. The tour will see them perform in some of the country’s finest venues, continuing in their tradition of bringing joy through music and dance to the hearts of many. Following on from their sold out show last year, Gina and the Champions are pleased to announce that they will be returning to

The Town Hall Arts Centre on Saturday 21st September .
