TOWNHALL CAVAN, OCTOBER 4th, 5th & 6th AT 8PM EACH NIGHT.
Winner of The Irish Times Theatre Award for Best New Play in 2002, The Gallant John-Joe is the extraordinary poetic soliloquy of John Joe Concannon, a Cavan widower, struggling with mental and physical decline. In this soaring work of great literary magic, he recounts how his world unravels through a rich and wonderfully singular voice, where we can be certain of nothing as the lines blur between what has happened and what has not. In its examination of the older Irish male, its misogyny and xenophobia, the play reveals the deep scars of a man tottering on the edge of the abyss.
Tom MacIntyre, who died in 2019, was one of the most unique, brave and extraordinary voices working in Irish theatre. dlr Mill Theatre is proud to present five times Irish Times Theatre Awards nominee, Malcolm Adams as John Joe in a production directed by Geoff O’Keeffe.
