THE SPIRITUAL LEADERS
"THIS FICTIONAL PLACE" OFFICIAL ALBUM LAUNCH
TOWNHALL CAVAN FRIDAY 27th OCTOBER 2023 8PM
A product of the Origins music scene in Cavan town in the late 00s, The Spiritual Leaders are an indie-electronic three-piece consisting of David Reilly (vocals and guitar), Fergus Brady (guitar, bass, vocals, synths), and Cathal Brady (drums).
The band released a self-titled debut album in 2012 with a live performance described in the Anglo Celt as ‘a legendary gig’. A ten-song album that showed influences from folk, indie and alternative rock genres, the group disbanded shortly after its release due to Reilly’s relocation to England.
An unexpected revival happened in 2019, as the Leaders convened in Snug Recording Co studio in Derby, England, to record a new six-song album, called ‘Albania Away’. A varied record spearheaded by its singles ‘Picture on the Wall’ and ‘Underwater with You’, ‘Albania Away’ gained considerable critical acclaim and streams upon its release in March 2020.
The band continued from there, teaming up again with Albania Away producer Rob Newman and Rich Collins to record a third album, ‘This Fictional Place’, released in March 2023. A foray into the world of electronic music, the new album was preceded by a run of four singles: 'Shadows and Tall Trees', 'Hall of Mirrors', 'The Last Sunset' and 'Past Present Future'. The new album gained a positive response, with radio airplay on BBC Introducing and 2FM (amongst others), a slew of favourable reviews, and over 40,000 streams on Spotify.
The gig in the Townhall will act as the Cavan launch of the album, with an expanded band line-up including Jamie Byrne on bass, Barra McGuirk on guitar, Ollie Brady on keys and electronics, and Anne O’Reilly on vocals.
